Despite being the ‘most depressing’ day of the year, we are not letting Blue Monday (18 January) get us down. Although our ODEON cinema is currently closed due to the Welsh lockdown restrictions, we are looking forward to reopening safely and enjoying the escapism of big screen blockbusters again soon.
Lights, camera, ACTION
With postponement after postponement last year, it seemed there was no right time for the return of our favourite British spy. After a long wait, the latest thrilling James Bond adventure No Time To Die is now set to finally hit the big screen on 2nd April. We’re getting our popcorn and martinis (shaken, not stirred) ready for the blockbuster, co-written by Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, which boasts a star-studded cast.
Delve into the spy world again in mid-November with the release of the newest instalment of the Mission Impossible series. Join American agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and other familiar faces in the seventh film of the iconic series, famous for its daring stunts.
Let’s get animated
There are several family friendly, animated films in the pipeline, perfect as part of a fun day out in the summer holidays. Don your best Minion dungarees to explore Gru’s backstory in the new comedy Minions: The Rise of Gru from 2nd July or check in with the monsters in Hotel Transylvania 4 at the beginning of August.
You can enjoy the best of both the animated and live action worlds as Space Jam: A New Legacy, the long-awaited sequel starring a unique mix of Looney Tunes favourites and basketball champions, also bursts onto our screens in July.
Marvel as heroes return
Another highly anticipated film we can’t wait to see is the latest Marvel blockbuster Black Widow. Coming to our screens on 7th May, Scarlett Johansson takes centre stage as the mysterious, no frills assassin turned Avenger in her first standalone story.
2021 continues to be super as heroes return later in the year with Eternals, featuring a diverse ensemble cast and Marvel’s first LGBTQ+ character representation, arriving in November and Tom Holland swings his way to his third Spider-Man adventure in December.
An extra dose
A more exciting prospect than the lockdown sequels we are currently experiencing, new installments in famous franchises are very popular in the film world this year across all genres. Start your sequel journey with a laugh from 11th June with comedy-drama Ghostbusters: Afterlife before taking to the skies in July for the action-packed Top Gun: Maverick.
Murder mystery lovers can look forward to the thrilling Poirot sequel Death on the Nile by actor/director Kenneth Branagh in September while science fiction fans will feel like Christmas has come early when The Matrix 4 hits the big screen on 22nd December.
We can’t wait to be experiencing the incredible high-definition images and immersive digital audio at the ODEON in the Centre, home of the only digital IMAX screen in South Wales, and we are looking forward to catching these exciting, upcoming releases* when we can enjoy the ultimate cinema experience once more!
